Hiking holidays in the Dolomites

A hiking holiday in the Dolomites leaves no wish unfulfilled, because in the immediate vicinity of our Hotel Conturines you find the Fanes-Sennes-Braies/Prags nature park with its countless hiking trails. It is one of the largest nature parks in South Tyrol with a size of over 25,500 hectares, offering the ideal playground for your hiking holiday in the Dolomites.

Fanes-Sennes-Braies/Prags nature park

Hiking in Alta Badia is the ultimate pastime when on holidays with us, because during a hiking holiday in the Dolomites you find a world of possibility. Walk across shady coniferous forests, over sunny mountain meadows and past Alpine mountain huts into the breath-taking mountain world of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage. The clear views, the impressive peaks and the great diversity of flora and fauna give your hiking holiday in the Dolomites a unique kind of magic and a very special charm.

The Fanes-Sennes-Braies/Prags nature park offers so many highlights that one hiking holiday in the Dolomites and at our hotel in San Cassiano/St. Kassian alone does not suffice to discover them all. You simply must – and want to – keep coming back, because once you have discovered hiking near San Cassiano/St. Kassian, you simply can’t get enough.

Highlights in the Fanes-Sennes-Braies/Prags nature park

Nearby our hotel, above San Cassiano/St Kassian, you find the nature experience trail “Lärchensteig” (larch trail), which connects the farms Rüdeferia and Rü and forms the border of the nature park. During a walk on this trail you come across a variety of interactive stations, which tell you all about this fascinating nature park.

The probably most important sight in the Fanes-Sennes-Braies/Prags nature park – and definitely also one of the most beautiful, magical and charming ones in South Tyrol – is Lake Braies/Prags. The wonderful turquoise blue water, the unique mountain scenery all around and the deep green forests are a definite highlight during a hiking holiday in the Dolomites. At Lake Braies/Prags, also called the pearl among the Alpine lakes, you enter the mythical reign of the Dolomites, coming up close with the magical appeal of this idyllic lake.

A hiking holiday in the Dolomites is also a great opportunity to climb the Conturines, the very mountain our hotel was named after. This hike is quite challenging and requires good general fitness and sure-footedness and is only recommendable for experienced hikers with climbing skills. On the summit at 3,064 m you enjoy a spectacular vista to Alta Badia and San Cassiano/St. Kassian – a real highlight during your hiking holiday in the Dolomites.

Tour of the Alpine mountain huts

The singularity of a hiking holiday in the Dolomites does not only consist in exploring the spectacular mountains of Alta Badia on the various hiking trails. A hiking holiday in the Dolomites also needs to be topped off with culinary highlights and relaxing moments – and these await you in the lovely Alpine cabins and mountain huts.

After an extensive hike, there is nothing better than sitting down in front of a local hut, enjoying the sunshine and a well-deserved rest. Treat yourself to one of the carefully prepared Ladin and South Tyrolean specialities, a refreshing drink and an extra portion of crisp mountain air. One of the most popular huts is the “Bioch Hütte”; you can reach the hut from the Piz Sorega cable car in only half an hour walk.

A hiking holiday in the Dolomites can be everything you want it to be; just make sure you are having a good time. We at Hotel Conturines have plenty of hiking tips in store for you and are happy to help you plan your next hike. Our hiking guide is here for you and glad to show you the most beautiful spots in the Dolomites. If you wish, we can also hook you up with a mountain guide, who accompanies you at a fee. A hiking holiday in Alta Badia, in the Dolomites, is all about adventure – you will be amazed!
