Sights in the Dolomites

What do to when at Hotel Conturines

The sights in the Dolomites offer something for every taste, boasting a great range of highlights. Here is our selection of the most beautiful sights to visit during your holiday in the Dolomites.

Enrosadira
The Alpine glow, Enrosadira in Ladin, is one of the most popular attractions; when the first and last rays of the sun cover the Dolomites in a mesmerising light, they look as if they were glowing – it is pure magic!

Open-air museums on Lagazuoi

During World War I Lagazuoi was the stage for fierce fighting between the Italian and the Austrian-Hungarian troupes. Then, the Lagazuoi formed the frontier in the Dolomites; today it boasts three open-air museums: the museum at Lagazuoi, the museum 5 Torri and the museum at Sas de Stria. Also the fortress Tre Sassi at Valparola pass hosts a museum centred on World War I. Great destinations for history fans.

Arts and crafts
The local handicrafts are an inseparable part of the Ladin culture. The Ladin people are known internationally for their expert wood carvings, sculptures and weaving skills. Take a look at their master creations featuring statues of saints, Madonnas, treasure chests, skilfully painted wardrobes and handcrafted fabrics, which are also available for sale. Purchase your own little sculpture from Alta Badia and take it home with you.

Museum Ladin
The Museum Ladin is located in Tor/Thurn Castle (Ćiastel de Tor) in San Martino in Badia/St. Martin in Thurn. This museum is centred on Ladin culture, language and history. The regional history of tourism, folkloric themes and scientific aspects are displayed and presented here.
Only a few metres from our Hotel Conturines you find a branch of the museum, the Museum Ladin Ursus ladinicus. This museum is centred on fossile bear bones, which were found in the Conturines cave at 2,800 m. They probably stem from a cave bear – or even from a specific type of bear, the ursus ladinicus.

Fanes-Sennes-Braies/Prags nature park
In San Vigilio di Marebbe/St. Vigil in Enneberg you find one sight in the Dolomites, which is especially popular with families: the nature-park house. The house centred on the nature park gives great insight into the Fanes-Sennes-Braies/Prags nature park, offering interactive round walks, videos, display boards and more, featuring all there is to know about the park.

Paraciora game reserve
If you love animals, we recommend you to take a leisurely family walk across this game reserve, located between La Villa and Pedraces. Here you find deer and stags, a petting zoo, a playground and an inviting hut to stop for a break.
